Competency Pilot
Educational design research project on the self-assessment based horizontal support framework for studio education
Conscious Learning in Design Studios: Historical Analysis and Contemporary Frameworks
This paper introduces the theoretical context of the Competency Pilot framework. It studies changes in studio teaching across time, seeking core values in order to address current challenges of design education.
As introduced at the Design Across Time Conference in Rome, March 2026.
Competency Pilot: Making Learning Visible in Design Education
This paper charts the process and outcomes of eight iterative prototyping and development cycles that led to the creation of Compilot. The resulting framework aims to foster design students’ self-directed learning capabilities—preparing them for complex contemporary challenges—and to render their learning processes more explicit to both themselves and their mentors.
As introduced at the Cumulus Conference in Athens, May 2026
Compilot book (EN)
